  • Yes, Berkshire Boulders is a bouldering only gym. With 2,000 sf of vertical climbing, our bouldering walls are designed for all abilities. From kids to adults, beginners to experienced, there will be climbing here suited for you. Berkshire Boulders will also feature an adjustable, lit-up spray wall, to set your own climbs or try others.

  • Bouldering is a type of climbing that’s easy to start if you have not climbed before - it is rock climbing stripped down to its pure essentials. You can jump right in, no hassle with ropes or required courses. The walls are up to fifteen feet high and outfitted with thick cushy pads below to keep you safe. Your challenge is to climb short but tricky bouldering "problems" (a route, or sequence of moves) using balance, technique, strength, and your brain (“problem solving").

The climbs are high enough to be exciting and challenging, but not so high that they become overly intimidating. Falling is perfectly OK and expected - that is what the thick pads are built for. With bouldering, it is just you, the wall, and your homies.

  • Yes! We plan to announce more details on our youth climbing programs soon. Sign up to get notified!

  • We’ve got you covered. The only thing you need to boulder is a pair of climbing shoes and a chalk bag (to keep your hands dry). We rent both of these items at the gym to those who don’t have their own. Just wear something comfortable to move around in and come on by.

  • Yep! Berkshire Boulders is a climbing gym for all ages - we even plan to offer a variety of youth dedicated programs. However, if you are planning to visit with your kids, we ask that you maintain direct supervision over them during the entirety of their visit.

  • Absolutely - every experienced climber started there. If you have never climbed before, rest assured, you don't need experience or even any special gear to get going. Just wear something comfortable and we will handle the rest, renting you climbing shoes and chalk bags and providing instruction and a tour of the facility upon arrival.

  • We don’t have a sauna yet…but that may change. If this this something you would like to see, please let us know. With enough interest we may add one (perhaps even a cold plunge too).

  • Great Barrington and neighboring areas in the Berkshires are home to incredible climbing. Unfortunately, the majority of the climbing is not available to the public. Organizations such as the Western Massachusetts Climbers Coalition (WMCC) have been working hard to secure access so that these areas can remain in the public domain for future generations of climbers. The area known as the Reservoir is the crown jewel of bouldering in the Berkshires. Bouldering at the Reservoir is varied, extensive, and quite excellent. The Gneiss rock lends itself to technical and aesthetic climbing. The well known classics of the area include Roses and Blue Jays (V13), Something From Nothing (v11), Fatwa (v10), The Bump (V8), Big Big Love (V8), Fen Fen (V7), Green Goddess (V7), French Tips (V6), Spack (V4), and Scary Mantelo (V3), amongst many, many others. To learn more about this area, please become a member of WMCC here.

There are many other areas in Great Barrington and beyond to sport climb or boulder at. However these areas need protecting. Profits from Berkshire Boulders gets donated to protect outdoor climbing. Please consider supporting the Western Massachusetts Climber’s Coalition whose work makes rock climbing in Western Massachusetts possible.
